14. A JOURNEY WITH MY FATHER

- RABINDRANATH  TAGORE
INTRODUCTION:-
Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941) was India’s first Nobel laureate. His writing conveys universal humanistic values. Tagore wrote musical dramas and also two autobiographies. He also started experimental school at Santiniketan, he tried his unpanishadic ideals of education. A journey with my father is the fourteenth chapter of his My Reminiscences (1917).
EXPLANATION:-
Tagore had many wonderful experiences in his childhood. His father was a very strict man. He would not like any deviation with regards to the activities in the house. He used to assign duties to all the family members and assess their performance. He was very particular about arrangements to be made. He wanted everything to be clear. He never allowed slovenliness. He had a well defined code to regulate his relations with others. He used to picture himself every detail of what he wanted to be done.
Rabindranath Tagore had a journey towards the Himalayas along with his father when he was a boy. He had a full suit of clothes. The pattern and color were selected by his father. A gold and embroidered velvet cap completed his costume before the journey. Satya prepare tagore for the journey by saying that getting into a railway carriage was a dangerous affairs unless one was used to it. Satya advised them to hold on to their seats tightly. Otherwise they would be thrown off with the jolts.
The ticket examiner came with the station master and doubted Tagore’s age as they had taken half ticket.  The station master argued that Tagore was looking above twelve years. So Tagore father took out a currency note from his box and handed it to the station master without speaking a word.
Thus, he had wonderful experience with his father during the journey to the Bolpur. Bolpur had a special feature which can’t be found anywhere in the world. The path leading from the main building to the servant quarter will not be covered over anywhere. But neither the sun ray not a rain drop will touch anyone passing along it. Bolphur house was surrounded by fields of ripening rice. The sight of rice-fields and natural surroundings touches his heart. All his experiences remained freeze in his memory. Tagore visited Golden Temple along with his father. Gurudarbar is located in the middle of the lake. They would offer sugar crystal and other sweets.
His father started teaching Sanskrit with second Sanskrit with second Sanskrit reader. He encouraged Tagore to learn Sanskrit composition from the very beginning. Tagore imbibed his father discipline and dedication from his childhood days. He learnt many things during his journey with his father. Every experience taught him a lesson. His stay at Bolpur had added to his experiences. Tagore maintenance of accounts impressed his father. His father allowed him to offer something to beggars. His helpful nature, discipline, dedication and strictness moulded Tagore personality. They assisted in shaping him into a responsible adult.     
CONCLUSION:-

In this story, tagore told about his journey and his experiences with his father. He wrote about his interests on holy books and towards soceser’s stones. He also wrote how he learnt moral value from his father.
