(DEGREE I YEAR OU SYLLABUS)


INTRODUCTION:


                                                 The lesson “Road Safety” is adopted from the article road safety –“A public health issue” issued by World Health Organisation (WHO) in 2004.


EXPLANATION:


                                    The lesson “Road Safety” is about causalities of the road accidents which are increasing day-by-day on busy streets, pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable to road traffic injuries. At the inquest the world’s first road traffic death was in 1896. The coroner reported that all this must never happen again.


                                    Throughout the world, with the improvement in transport results are bustling of roads with vehicles. It leads to road accidents due to the negligence of people towards traffic rules. Deaths and injuries become prevalent and crashes are frequent. Most of these accidents occur in developing countries where people use motorized transport. According to the available statistics 1.2 million people killed on roads every year and 50 million people are injured. Safety on the roads is evading. If the current trend continues, the number of people killed and injured on the world’s roads will rise by more than 60% between 2000 and 2020.



                                    On the other side, vehicles support economic and social development in many countries by making transportation of goods and people faster and efficient. Road accidents are preventable. It is experienced in countries with long histories of motorized travel has shown that a scientific system approach to road safety is essential. W.H.O and the World Bank represents current knowledge of the global road traffic injury problem and offer science based evidence and solutions to address it. Global road safety campaigns aim to promote action to prevent road injury or accident. The loss and suffering associated with road traffic death and injuries are preventable with firm political will and integrated approach that addresses the people who use road and the road infrastructure. So that, the roads can be made more safer.




Conclusion:


                                   
                        The main aim of the lesson is to create general awareness among youth about road accidents and increasing percentage of accidents due to negligence towards traffic rules. It inform us to benefits of using motorized transport and threaten us of the injuries accidents caused by the careless driving of the youth and to get rid of such incidents it suggest the way and means.
